Tournament Time for Windows Help File

Division Wizard Step 2 - Tournament Type

Change these tournament configuration settings to describe the tournament that you want this division to generate.

These settings determine:

  • Tournament Time - the basic structure of the tournament
  • Layout Method - the specifics about the structure of the tournament (as specified by different sports organizations)
    • Pure Seed- This layout ensures that, in the first round, the top rated team plays the lowest rated team, the second best plays the second worst, and so on. This layout makes it most likely that in the final round, the top rated team will be playing against the second best team, increasing the excitement in your schedule.
    • Top Pure Seed- This layout is technically just like "Pure Seed", but adjusts the position of the teams so that the better-rated team is at the top of the pair on the draw chart.
    • Byle Method- Pure seed often results in poor games in the first round, because of the large difference in skill among the teams that are competing (for example, as the Top Rated team plays the Worst Rated team, there is little doubt on which team will win the game). The Byle method attempts to improve the quality of these games, while maintaining the potential for well-balanced games as the tournament progresses.
    • Minimal Byes- This seeding reorganizes the pairings so that, when the bracket isn't "full" (ie. a power-of-2, like 4, 8, 16, 32, etc), then "bye games" in the first round are reduced. Obviously, if there are an odd number of teams, there must be at least one "bye game". However, using this seed method, there will be at most one "bye game". (Visually, on the draw chart, it may seem that some first-round games are "indented" and actually start in the second round. However, they will be scheduled among the first-round games.)
    • Little League, Babe Ruth, Pony, ASA, USSSA, Dixie Youth, USYSA, AYSO, Nat Jr Basketball- These seed methods and bracket layouts have been created to match the published brackets of the corresponding organizations. (Note that if these organizations change their published brackets, we will update Tournament Time as soon as possible.)
  • Consolation Game - whether a single elimination tournament has a third place determining game
  • Random Seeding - randomly reorders the teams on each tournament generation
  • Pair Order - the order used when pulling pairs out to schedule pool play games
  • Bye Matching - whether pools with odd numbers of teams should have the bye teams matched to create more even numbers of games

"I used to dread little league season, with all the hours of paperwork. Trying to schedule all the teams, registering and keeping track of all the players was an absolute nightmare. Your software was an answer to my prayers!
