Bye Matching
When generating pool games, if you have an odd number of teams in a pool, each time a set is generated, one team is left without an opponent. This game is called a bye. As additional sets are generated, Tournament Time has different strategies of how to combine these byes.
Your choice of matching byes can affect how well your tournament can be scheduled based on the available field times. You can experiment with different strategies until you get the results you desire. The Bye Matching strategies are described below:
- None- No effort is made to try to create a game for the odd team.
- Within- The bye team from the first set is matched with the second set, etc. This way, for each even combination of games, each team will play the same number of games.
- iFirst- (Inter-Pool First)- This is used when you have more than one pool with an odd number of teams. The bye team from the first set in the first pool is matched with the bye team from the first set in the second pool. If each pool plays a different number of games per team (sets), bye matching continues in the pool with more sets by matching byes within the pool (as above).
- iLast - (Inter-Pool Last)- This procedure processes exactly the same as "Within" until the last game in each pool if there are an odd number of sets. Tournament Time will automatically match these left-over games in each pool with teams left over in another pool.
After processing is completed for bye matching as described above, any team left with one game short of the requested number of games due to a bye will be arbitrarily matched with a team from within its own pool making one team have one more game than requested and thereby guarantee that every team meets the minimum number of games per team requested.
