Tournament Time for Windows Help File

Conversion Of Data

The conversion process attempts to convert all of your existing data to the current format necessary for this version of Tournament Time. This process is automatically invoked at installation time if you install Tournament Time into the same directory as a previous version.

In addition, if you have a backup disk of files from any previous or current version of Tournament Time, you may simply restore these files and they will automatically be converted to the current format. See Restore Files for more information.

The installation process takes the follow steps on the data tables to protect your data:

Divisions:

All your divisions are added to the "DIVISION.DBF" unless you selected to install sample files. In this case, all your divisions, except the old samples, are added. Several new options will be forced for previous versions that didn't specify these parameters: Playing Surface Name (field), Official's Title (Officials), and Seed Method (Byl method). The playing surface name and official's title show up on any reports for this division, whereas seed method only affects schedules regenerated by this version of the program.

Schedules:

Schedules are copied and updated to work with this version of Tournament Time, however, the new feature of showing the Seeds on the draw chart will not be available on the converted schedules. The playing surface and officials title, however, will reflect the current settings in the matching division. To get all the features operational on old schedules, you may have to re-generate the schedule. Note that none of your customization changes will be saved if you re-generate.

Printers:

Tournament Time Convert attempts to save all your existing printer configurations to keep intact any changes you may have made to them, yet also adds any new printers added by this version.

Erase Old Data:

After you are sure your old data has been converted successfully (go and look at it to be certain), choose

[Utilities] [Erase Data] [Delete Old Data]

menu in order to save some space. This process is done from the Main Menu of Tournament Time after installation and conversion is complete. After the old data has been successfully deleted from your disk, the menu choice on the Erase Data menu will not be displayed. This means that all the old data has been successfully deleted.

IMPORTANT: If you do NOT select this, and re-install Tournament Time at any future time (or install another update), ANY CHANGES MADE TO YOUR PRIMARY DATA FILES SINCE THIS CONVERSION WILL BE LOST!

So we strongly urge you to delete your old data after the conversion is successful.

"I used to dread little league season, with all the hours of paperwork. Trying to schedule all the teams, registering and keeping track of all the players was an absolute nightmare. Your software was an answer to my prayers!
