Tournament Time for Windows Help File

Conventions

Tournament Time has been developed using a menu oriented approach which makes the system easy to learn and use.

Simple menus make it easy to select the functions that you want to use. To make a selection from a menu, you may use the cursor arrow keys to highlight a choice and then press Enter to actually make the selection.

A quicker method of selection is to enter the capitalized, highlighted letter (usually the first) of the item in the menu. This makes the selection immediately. When a menu choice is highlighted, a short explanation is displayed on the bottom line of the screen. This explanation appears in the same color as the menu that it explains.

You can use a mouse to make selections on the menu and move the cursor around in the dialog boxes. Use the left button when Enter is required. To exit from a dialog box, normally you can click on the ®OkŻ or buttons in the dialog box. Many dialog boxes contain a close button in the upper left corner (just like windows). To close the dialog, click on the close button.

Help is available from anywhere in the program; just press the F1 key. To view the Help Index, press F1 a second time. The complete list of help topics will then be displayed and you can select any topic.

The symbol for the Ctrl key is the caret, "^". The bottom line of the screen often refers to keys that require the Ctrl key to be pressed. This is indicated by a ^ in front of the key. In this manual, this is indicated by Ctrl^ in front of the key. For example, the notation ^End on the screen indicates Ctrl+End.

In this manual, the more descriptive notation Ctrl^End is used to indicate the same two keys.

When prompted to press the Ctrl key, press and hold it and then tap the indicated key (such as the End key, in the example above). Then release both keys.

Press Ctrl^Enter or Ctrl^End to indicate that you have completed entering data for any screen. You can also exit data screens by clicking outside the window with the mouse.

Clicking outside the window is the same as pressing the Esc key.

Most data entry screens have push buttons used to indicate that you are finished with that screen. You can click on the or buttons to terminate processing. If you press Ctrl^Enter, the default button (the one marked with double angle brackets, e.g. ®OkŻ) is automatically selected no matter where the cursor is in the dialog box.

Press the Esc key to escape or exit from any function in the system. Use it to move back to the previous menu level or to abort the current field entry on the current screen.

To exit Tournament Time, press the Escape key from the Main Menu. A pop-up window asks you to confirm your request to exit. Press "R" to return to the Main Menu or "Q" to quit Tournament Time.

Other keys used for editing input are available in Tournament Time. For example, use the arrow keys to move around on the screen, Backspace to delete characters, Ctrl-Y to delete to the end of a field, etc. See Appendix A for more information.

"I used to dread little league season, with all the hours of paperwork. Trying to schedule all the teams, registering and keeping track of all the players was an absolute nightmare. Your software was an answer to my prayers!
