Recording Plays

Recording Plays

All plays may be recorded either by using your mouse or defined keyboard shortcuts. The shortcuts may be found on your Quick Reference Card and will be shown below in parenthesis.

Recording plays involves using the Play Selection window. Use the Tab key to move around this window, the F1-F10 keys to record defensive positions, and the space bar to toggle the various check boxes.

This window prompts for the play action (Fly out, Strike Out, Single, Advance, etc.). Use the arrow keys or mouse to select the desired action.

The defensive players involved in the play may also be added here. Use the F1 to F10 keys on your keyboard to enter the positions. For instance, if the batter hit a single to center field you would choose Single from the list then press F8. This records that the batter hit the ball to position 8. If the batter hit a grounder to shortstop and was thrown out at first you would select Ground Out from the list then press F6 and F3. This records that the batter hit the ball to position 6, that the shortstop had an assist, and that the first baseman got a putout. To remove the defensive positions and start over, press the 'Delete' key on your keyboard.

Errors are also recorded in the Play Selection window. Simply click on the 'Error By' checkbox then use the F1-F10 keys to record the defensive position.

Various other options are available in this window according to the type of play. You may credit the batter with an RBI when recording a run, mark a run as Unearned for the pitcher, mark a hit as Well Hit, mark a plate appearance as a Clutch Opportunity, mark Double and Triple plays, and add a comment to a play (Great D!, line drive, etc.)

Bring batter to plate

Single click on the player in the on-deck circle (Alt-0)

Record Pitches

Click the 'Ball', 'Strike', or 'Foul' buttons (Alt-B, Alt-S, Alt-F). This will increment the count and will credit the pitcher with the pitch.

Record the batter out

Click the 'Out' button or use your mouse to drag the batter to a dugout (Alt-O). This will bring up the play selection window. Choose the action, record any errors, record the defense, mark Well Hit or Clutch Op if either option applies, and hit 'OK'.

Record batter to base

Use the mouse to drag the batter to first, second, third, or home.(Alt-1, Alt-2, Alt- 3, Alt-4). This will bring up the play selection window. Choose the action, record any errors, record the defense, mark Well Hit or Clutch Op if either option applies, and hit 'OK'.

Record a runner out

Use the mouse to drag the runner to the dugout (Ctrl-5, Ctrl-6, or Ctrl-7). This will bring up the play selection window. Choose the action, record any errors, record the defense and hit 'OK'.

Record runner advance

Use the mouse to drag the runner a base (Ctrl-2, Ctrl-3, or Ctrl-4). This will bring up the play selection window. Choose the action, record any errors, and hit 'OK'. Note: if you advance a runner to home remember to mark the RBI checkbox if it applies.

"I used to dread little league season, with all the hours of paperwork. Trying to schedule all the teams, registering and keeping track of all the players was an absolute nightmare. Your software was an answer to my prayers!
