Glossary of Terms

Clutch -- Clutch is a judgement of the coach of a particularly difficult situation. Usually, the batter comes to the plate with runners on 2nd or third base with the opportunity to score a run.

Current Game -- the currently selected & loaded game in Scorebook. The status of the game (scores, runs, hits, outs, players on base, etc) is used to fill the main window of Scorebook.

Defense -- the team pitching and playing the outfield.

Finalize -- when you finalize a game, the scoring is marked complete, and all the final statistics are calculated for the game (and all players who participated). If you want to enter statistics for a game without actually scoring the game, you can select "View/Edit Player Stats" from the Edit menu of the "Game Information" window and you will be asked if you want to mark the game as "Final".

Offense -- the team at bat.

Pane -- a sub-window with a specific purpose. This sub-window is always contained in a larger window, and can sometimes be moved or hidden when desired.

On Base plays:

Various kinds of Outs:

SAB -- 'Sacrifice bunt

SAF -- 'Sacrifice fly

Fly out --

Ground out --

Foul out --

Strike Out -- Batter received 3 strikes or bunted foul on the third strike.

Strike Out-C -- Same as Strike Out only in a Clutch situation

Strike Out/PB -- Catcher dropped the third strike (his fault since this was scored as a Passed Ball) and the runner made it to 1st base.

Strike Out/WP -- Same as Strike Out but the dropped third pitch was the fault of the pitcher since he threw a Wild Pitch.
