Planning Your Strategy

The most important step in taking your League to the Web is planning your strategy. Here are several questions whose answers will help you decide how to take your League Online:

• Do you want more than just a registration form?
  1. If you only care about online registration, you can have Avance Connections host your registration form, and not have to deal with managing a web site at all. ( Easy and Automatic)
  2. Whether or not you want more than a registration form, there are many free webhosts available that are more than sufficient for hosting a league website.
  3. If you absolutely don't want advertising on your website, or you want control over the advertising, or you want to appear more professional, then you 'll want to consider paying for web hosting.
• Do you want to have banner advertisements on your website? If not, or if you want control over what gets advertised, you'll have to pay for web hosting.
• Do you want your league to have a domain? (something like: www.MyLeagueName.org) If so, you'll have to pay to have the name registered, and you'll probably want to pay for web hosting (though some free webhosts allow you to associate a domain with your web site.)
• Do you want to accept credit cards? ...
• What is an acceptable fee per transaction? -- Simply put, you cannot accept credit card transactions without paying the credit card company a little something! You have three approaches available for accepting credit cards online: Let Avance do it for you (Easy and Automatic), Get an online merchant account (Complete, Automatic and Independent), or Process them locally with a normal Merchant Account (Simple and Cheap).
• Do you want to accept electronic checks (ACH)? -- Only the Complete, Automatic and Independent method allows you to accept ACH electronic checks.
