League Web Manager Help File
Transferring Your Files
When you generate your league's web site, you do not immediately have a presence on the World Wide Web... you still need to place all the files in your "LExplore" folder onto a web server (also known as a web host.) There are some free web hosts available, and most ISPs offer limited web hosting as part of the internet access they provide.
In order to be very flexible and simple, an league explorer style web page requires no CGI, JAVA, SSI, ASP or any active server role. Therefore, it should work on ANY WEB SERVER. However, because of the many ways of viewing your league, it requires a fair number of files (though they are very small), basically, one for each way of viewing your league. Therefore, sending your website to your web server may take some time.
NOTE:
The more complicated your league, the more files LExplore needs. While creating these files is quick and simple, sending them can become somewhat complicated. Therefore, we recommend trying to produce only one season at a time for your website!
NOTE ALSO:
Before transferring an update to your web page to the web server, be sure to delete your entire website off the web server. This is beneficial because many of the generated files use random names, and therefore won't replace the files on your web server.. they will only add to them. After several updates, it's easy to end up with several thousand seperate files on the server, even though only the most recently transferred files are actually necessary.
NetLoad![]() After you've used NetLoad's wizard to provide the connection information for your web host, NetLoad provides three buttons on its toolbar to give you complete control over synchronizing your website with the local copy.
|
WS FTP![]() WS Ftp provides a wizard to setup up each FTP server connection, and supports practically unlimited numbers of connection configurations. The "Pro" version supports synchronizing websites much like NetLoad. |
The Basic Steps -- These are the basic steps that it takes to transfer your web site to a web server, no matter what FTP software you're using:
- Obtain the login information from your Web Host (see below for what info, in bold, is needed).
- Install your FTP software
- Create a new Connection
- Provide the address of the FTP server to connect to
- Give it your username and password
- Select your user directory that was assigned to you on the server.
This can be very convenient, especially if you only have a few files that comprise your website (such as if you're only putting your Registration Form on the web.) However, if you're using a full-blown League Explorer style website, then you are probably dealing with over 100 files. FreeServers limits their web page management interface to only support uploading 20 files at a time, which could become rather tiresome when trying to upload your whole website. Fortunately, though, they also offer FTP access, so you can use the above method, with WS Ftp or NetLoad, or any other FTP client software to manage your website.

"I used to dread little league season, with all the hours of paperwork. Trying to schedule all the teams, registering and keeping track of all the players was an absolute nightmare. Your software was an answer to my prayers!
