Collecting Satellite Data

After all the registrations are entered, you'll want to collect the data into the primary database.

(During the registration process, too, all the data can be collected and redistributed occasionally, for the benefit of all the registrars. )

The steps in Collecting Data are:

1. Backup the Primary Database. There is a convenient choice on the merge menu that puts this backup at your fingertips. [ Main Menu ® Utilities ® Merge ® Backup ]

2. Create a seperate backup at each Satellite computer.

NOTE: Do NOT enter any more data at the satellite after creating this backup UNTIL you have completed the step "Updating the Satellites"

3. Bring all the Satellite backups to the Primary computer.

4. Start the Merge Process [ Main Menu ® Utilities ® Merge ® Merge Data ]

5. When Merge asks: "Restore data from:" put the first satellite backup in the floppy drive, and make sure the path in the dialog is correct (if you are using the A: drive, the path should be "A:\") and Click "OK"

6. Evaluate the combined data in the Primary Database to make sure it makes sense. (eg. you may have accidently merged registrations into the wrong season) If you notice any problems, you can choose to "Recover", then start the merge from scratch!
