Help with HtmlHelp
We have overall found Microsoft's HtmlHelp to be more stable and more flexible than the older Microsoft WinHelp help processor, and so all of our Windows programs now use HtmlHelp.Computers running Windows 98 and newer and Windows 2000 have HtmlHelp all ready up and running. Windows 95 and Windows NT, however, aren't necessarily ready for HtmlHelp to be installed. The setup routine for each of our products that uses HtmlHelp installs most of the pieces necessary (our setup routines are built by a Microsoft tool that claims to know how to install HtmlHelp), however we've found certain circumstances that it doesn't install everything.
Basically, Microsoft Internet Explorer v3.0 or newer must be installed on your computer before installing HtmlHelp and, therefore, before any of our Windows software. ( IE v4.0 or newer is recommended )
For the convenience of our customers, here are some links to help with any problems you may have with HtmlHelp:
- Microsoft's answers to Frequently Asked Questions about HtmlHelp
- The Microsoft HtmlHelp Runtime Viewer (dated Feb 17, 1999, Requires IE v3.0 or newer)
- Go to Microsoft's Internet Explorer Home Page (note: you must be connected to the internet during the installation of Microsoft's latest version of IE.. It selectively downloads only those parts that you choose to install.)
- We were going to provide a link here to download Internet Explorer v3.0 (the bare minimum required for HtmlHelp) but it is no longer available from Microsoft.
