v3.0 Build: After editing games, they disappear

Added 3/10/2006
Fixed in SCOREBK 3.1
Here's a procedure that will get these games back for you:

  • Go to the Game -->"New/Edit..." function ("Game Information" window)
  • Select "Tech Support" from the "Edit" menu on this "Game Information" window.
  • You will be prompted with a window saying to "only use this tool in conjunction with Tech Support assistants...." and you'll have a place to type a string,
    > Type (without quotes): "5d9m15y"
Where: d = last digit in the day of the month,
m = last digit in the month,
        y = last digit in the year (e.g. "0" for 2000).
    > and click "Ok".
  • Now, you will be given a "Tech Support" window. There's a large text area at the very bottom with a button labeled "Query" to it's right. Click this box and type (all on one long, wrapped line (ie: don't press "Enter") ) in it:

update game set [whenPlayed] = DateSerial( Year (WhenPlayed)*10, Month(WhenPlayed),
    Day(WhenPlayed)) , juldate=format(whenplayed,"#####0") Where Year(WhenPlayed) < 1000

14: How do I enter a pinch runner?

Added 10/13/2011
Scorebook handles "pinch runners" as player substitutions.

To substitute an offensive player during a game, follow these steps:

  1. First, click the button "Subst" at the bottom of the main ScoreBook window. A window called "Substitutions - (team name)" will appear.
  2. Select the offensive team by clicking the "Team" menu, then clicking the offensive team's name.
  3. Find the batting order number for the runner being replaced. This is the number in the column called "Ord".
  4. Now, find the player who will be the pinch runner, and enter that batting order number (which you found in the previous step) into this pinch runner's "Ord" column.
  5. Click the "X" in the top right of the "Substitutions" window to close it, and click "Yes" to save the changes.
  6. The square marker in ScoreBook's main window showing the runner on base will now show the shirt number of the pinch runner.
From now on, all activity for this player will be attributed to this new pinch runner.

any: How do I tell Scorebook how many batters should be in the lineup?

Added 5/2/2011

Go to [ File... Setup System ] and the "Setup" window will open.
In this window you will find a radio button on the left side, in the box labeled "Number of Batters". You can select "Fixed numer of players" and then enter a number in the box, or you can select "Any number of active players", and then any player that has a batting order number in the lineup will be included in the batters.

To get to the lineup:

  • Click [ League... Create/Edit Teams ]
  • In the "Team Information" window, click on the team name you want to edit in the list on the left.
  • Now click [ Edit... Lineup ]
  • The third column, labeled "Ord", indicates the batting order...
Set to 0 for any players that you don't want to include in the lineup.

any: I only care about statistics for my team... How do I use ScoreBook to score just my team's games?

Added 5/21/2011

ScoreBook requires that there exist 2 teams in order to score a game, so you will have to create a second team. We suggest that you create a "dummy" second team and name it something general, like "Opponent", and then create all your games as Your Team v/s "Opponent".

We recognize that manually creating the dummy team is tedious, so ScoreBook includes a tool, so that with just a couple of clicks of your mouse, it will automatically fill your dummy team with dummy players.

Just follow these steps:

  • 1) From the ScoreBook Main Menu, choose [ League... Create/Edit Teams ]
  • 2) Now, if you haven't already created the dummy team "Opponent", use these steps to do so:
    • A) Click the "New" button
    • B) Enter the word "Opponent" for the Team Name field
    • C) Select your league in the "League Name" drop-down list
    • D) Click the "Save Changes" button
  • 3) Next, click on the "Opponent" team in the list on the left to "load" it.
  • 4) Select the menu option [ Edit... Line Up ]. The "Line Up" window will appear, and should be empty.
  • 5) Finally, select the menu option [ Line Up... Create Default ]. The "Line Up" window should fill with dummy player names like "Player 1", etc, and have all the positions and batting orders assigned.
  • Close each window, saving the changes, and you're ready to create games for Your Team v/s "Opponent"!

3.0: Scorebook Manual/Help File

Added 3/10/2006

Get the latest Scorebook HTML Help file here: SCORE.CHM

This help file includes a full tutorial on using ScoreBook as and interactive scoring program, and as a statistics tracking program without scoring games.

While this help file was written for ScoreBook v3.1 and newer, all the concepts also apply to ScoreBook v3.0, although many menu choices were rearranged between v3.0 and v3.1, and the help file refers to menu choices as to where they now are in v3.1

14: What`s the difference between a team roster and line up?

Added 10/13/2011
The team Roster contains all the players on the team, whether or not they are in a game. The Lineup is the batting order and fielding assignments, with the bench players listed at the bottom with "0" (zero) for batting order and for position.

When you first create a team, you also create a default lineup which will then be used as the lineup each game starts.

Before you "start" the game (by clicking [ Game... Start ]), you can adjust this lineup by going to [Game... Lineup... (Team Name) ]. Any changes that are made will be used for this game and saved to be used when starting any subsequent game.

( Note that Scorebook also uses the lineup editor in order to make player substitutions during the game. Any substitution changes in the lineup only affect this game, and do not affect the "default team lineup". )

Added 8/14/2007
Updated 7/14/2007
Fixed in SCOREBK 14.01.4
