ANY: How do I export GameTime Schedules to Excel? (or Quattro Pro, 123, etc.)

Added 3/10/2006
It's already done for you! Just go to your spreadsheet, and choose to "Open" your schedule file (ending in ".GTS"). Most spreadsheets will automatically recognize that it's saved in comma-deliminated format; If yours doesn't, you may have to use "Import" instead, and/or pick "Comma Delimited" or "SDF" or "Ascii Text" from a conversion format list.

ANY: How many teams can GameTime handle?

Added 3/10/2006
GameTime can handle an infinite number of teams, limited only by availble disk space, provided these teams are separated into divisions of no more than 30 teams and 30 fields each.

14.00: Can I schedule 3 divisions with inter-division games?

Added 4/4/2006

GameTime was designed to automatically schedule inter-division games for two divisions at a time, but with a little extra work, you can schedule inter-division games for 3 divisions. For clarity, we are going to put all the "divisions" into the same GameTime Division, and refer to your organizational "divisions" as "SubDivisions".

The steps are:

  1. Create one big division with all the teams in it.
    1. Give the teams names like "SubDiv1: Apaches", "SubDiv2: Phillies" so its obvious which subdivision each is in, but make sure there is only one actual GameTime division.
    2. Set the number of Games Per Team to 17 (one less than the number of teams, just right for 1 Round Robin,
With this one round robin, each team gets 1 game within its Subdivision, and 1 game against each other subdivision. )
    3. Define all the available fields so this schedule can use them.
    4. Set Games Per Week to 2 , and Games Per Day to 2 (if all games are played on Saturday)
    5. Click "Generate Schedule", (when it finishes, you can click "View Schedule" to see what it did)
    6. Choose from the menu [ File => Save ]
    7. Again, from the menu, choose [ File => Save As ], this time give it a name like: "SubDiv1 Within-Division Games"
  2. With this new schedule, just for "SubDiv1", make these adjustments:
    1. Remove all but 6 teams. Leave them named "SubDiv1: Apaches", etc, so the names are identical to those in the Big division.
    2. change the Games Per Team to 5 (one less than the number of teams, just right for 1 Round Robin)
    3. On Step 5, click "Add..." under the "Coordinate With..." list Select the Schedule File you created in step 1 and click "Open" to add it to the "Coordinate With.." list (this ensures that the newly scheduled games don't conflict with the existing games)
    4. On Step 6, change "Games Per Week" to 3 and (if all games are on Saturday) change "Games Per Day" to 3
    5. Click "Regenerate Schedule", (when it finishes, you can click "View Schedule" to see what it did)
    6. Choose from the menu [ File => Save ]
    7. Again, from the menu, choose [ File => Save As ], this time give it a name like: "SubDiv2 Within-Division Games"
  3. 3) With this new schedule, just for "SubDiv2", make these adjustments:
    1. Change the 6 teams' names so they are appropriate for Sub Div 2 (ie: named "SubDiv2: Phillies", etc, so the names are identical to those in the Big division.)
    2. Games Per Team should be left at 5
    3. On Step 5, click "Add..." under the "Coordinate With..." list Select the Schedule File you created in step 2 and click "Open" to add it to the "Coordinate With.." list
(The list should now have 2 schedules in it... the Big one, and SubDiv1's)
(this ensures that the newly scheduled games don't conflict with any of the existing games)
    4. On Step 6, leave "Games Per Week" at 3
    5. Click "Regenerate Schedule", (when it finishes, you can click "View Schedule" to see what it did)
    6. Choose from the menu [ File => Save ]
    7. Again, from the menu, choose [ File => Save As ], this time give it a name like: "SubDiv3 Within-Division Games"
  4. With this new schedule, just for "SubDiv3", make these adjustments:
    1. Change the 6 teams' names so they are appropriate for Sub Div 3 (ie: named "SubDiv3: Yankees", etc, so the names are identical to those in the Big division.)
    2. Games Per Team should be left at 5
    3. On Step 5, click "Add..." under the "Coordinate With..." list Select the Schedule File you created in step 3 and click "Open" to add it to the "Coordinate With.." list (The list should now have 3 schedules in it... the Big one, SubDiv1's, and SubDiv2's) (This ensures that the newly scheduled games don't conflict with the existing games)
    4. On Step 6, leave "Games Per Week" at 3
    5. Click "Regenerate Schedule", (when it finishes, you can click "View Schedule" to see what it did)
    6. Choose from the menu [ File => Save ], then click "Close"

At this point, you have 4 schedule files that contain the complete schedule.

To combine these into one schedule, use the "Master Schedule" feature of GameTime:

  5. Click "File => Open", and open the schedule created in step 1 above.
  6. Click the button "Details >>", then go to the page "Schedule Tools"
  7. Click the button "Add To Master" (GameTime may walk you through some steps to create the Master, or to select a season in the master)
  8. Close the Schedule Editor (click the "Close" button)
  9. Follow steps 5..8 for the schedule created in step 2
  10. Follow steps 5..8 for the schedule created in step 3
  11. Follow steps 5..8 for the schedule created in step 4

Now, all the schedules have been combined into one in the Master. To view this schedule and produce reports, choose from the menu [ Master => Master Schedule Reports ]
To set the game numbers appropriately, then click "Details >>", "Schedule Tools" then "Renumber".

The master schedule is borrowed by GameTime from our LAS product, so, unfortunately, you can't use GameTime to save changes to it other than by using the "Add To Master" function to add the entire schedule to the master. You can, however, change the originating schedules (created above in steps 1, 2, 3 & 4), then choose to "Add to Master" again.

9.00: Game Time keeps asking to open an .OCX file

Added 3/10/2006

9.00: GameTime Got Error 1732: Property ToggleEmpty Not Found

Added 3/10/2006
Fixed in GT 9.01
In the schedule editor, when you click "Add Game", GameTime tries to make sure that the new, empty game is going to be visible by toggling the "Show Empty Slots" setting on, and it encounters this error. If you just go to the "Report Options" tab in the Game Details pages and make sure that "Show Empty Slots" IS CHECKED before clicking "Add Game", Gametime will behave more nicely.

9.00: GameTime Got Error 1733: Class Definition gtDragonDrop not found

Added 3/10/2006
Fixed in GT 9.01
In the schedule editor on the "Tools" tab of the Game Details pages there is a button "Drag'n Drop". This is an incomplete feature that wasn't meant to be visible yet; just ignore it. If you click it, GameTime reports an error... Just click "Ignore" and everything is fine.

9.00: GameTime Got Error 31: 'Invalid Subscript Reference' while loading my old schedule

Added 3/10/2006
Fixed in GT 9.01
GameTime for Windows v9.00 has trouble reading SCH and DIV files created by a version of GameTime for Dos previous to v7.xx. To work around this problem, open up your division (.DIV) or schedule (.SCH) file in Dos EDIT or Windows NotePad and delete the line that starts with "M". Save the file, and it will now work fine!

12.xx/14.xx: How should I transfer my list of teams between GameTime and LAS?

Added 4/13/2006
In recent versions of LAS and GameTime there are two methods of transferring team names from a GameTime schedule into LAS that we will describe here as methods "A" and "B".

You can use either method. The only advantage is that with method "B" you only have to select the path to the LAS master schedule once, but with method "A", you have to browse to the GameTime data folder every time.

A) From within LAS:

  1. Select [ Schedules ==> Import ]
  2. In the dialog that appears, browse to your gametime data folder. This is now usually at [ My Documents\Game Time Schedules] or at [ C:\Documents and Settings\(your user name)\My Documents\Game Time Schedules ]
  3. Select the appropriate schedule to import, and click OK
A division will be created in LAS for each subdivision in this GameTime schedule.
All the teams in this schedule will be added to the appropriate division(s) in LAS.
All the games in this schedule will be added to the LAS schedule

B) From within GameTime:

  1. Configure the Master Schedule Path to point to LAS's SCHEDULE.DBF file by:
    1. Going to [ Tools => Options ]
    2. Open the "File Paths" Page
    3. Click the "..." button next to the "Master Schedule Path"
    4. Browse to and pick LAS's SCHEDULE.DBF file... this is now usually located at C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\LAS Data\SCHEDULE.DBF
    5. Click "OK" to save the settings
  2. Open the schedule you want to send teams from to LAS
  3. Click the "Details >>" button in the lower right of the Schedule Editor
  4. Go to the "Schedule Tools" page
  5. Click the button "Add To Master"
  6. If you have multiple seasons in LAS, a dialog will appear asking which season to send it to... pick the correct season
A division will be created in LAS for each subdivision in this GameTime schedule.
All the teams in this schedule will be added to the appropriate division(s) in LAS.
All the games in this schedule will be added to the LAS schedule.

Any: Is there an easy way to set up the report spacing and vertical lines to be the same for all Schedules?

Added 3/2/2009

Each time the "Schedule Editior / Report Designer" appears, it loads the "Report Design" from the "default.gtr" file in the GameTime data folder.

After you make adjustments to the report design, you can save your layout under any name you want, or you can overwrite the "default.GTR" file so that your layout loads each time the editor window loads. You can do all this from the "Report Options.." page of the Schedule Editior's "Details" area,

14.01: When I Swap Practice Games, Why do both games disappear?

Added 4/4/2007
Updated 3/4/2007
Fixed in GT 14.03
The two practice games that were swapped don't disappear immediately; They still show in the grid (with the team names properly swapped). However, the Analysis report no longer includes the games, and they will disappear from the grid when it gets refreshed.

This is because there is only one team assigned to each game. The "Swap Teams" function recognizes that the games aren't scheduled properly for normal games (and doesn't even check whether they are "Practice" games), and so marks them both as "Unscheduled". (This recalculation is no longer done in v14.03+)

WORKAROUND: Enter "Practice" as the visitor team for each game. Then the "Swap Teams" button will work correctly.

12.xx-14.xx: Why do I get an `Insufficient Memory` error? I have plenty of memory!

Added 5/1/2006
This problem has been reported by several customers (though our tech support department has been unable to reproduce the error).

It seems that one of Microsoft's updates to Windows XP causes this problem.

In every case, causing Windows to install all the latest updates has fixed the problem. You can start the "Windows Update" process by visiting this Microsoft web page: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

15.06.45: Why do I only get the first page of my schedule report?

Added 2/18/2009
Fixed in GT 15.07

This problem is caused by an error in the font that is defined for the footer in the report design file that shipped with this version of GameTime. Fortunately, it is very easy to work around, and to fix permanently.

WORKAROUND: Follow these steps to correct your default report design file:

  • Open a schedule in the Schedule Editor / Report Designer
  • Click "Details >>" to open the details pane
  • Click the "Report Titles" page tab
  • Click in the Footer field, then click the "B" button to make the footer bold. (You can click it a second time to make it not-bold again, if you like.)
This just cleared the bad information from the old Report Design file. The report will now generate correctly. To make this fix permanent, continue with the following steps:
  • Click the "Report Options" page tab
  • Click the "Save Report Design As..." button
  • In the window that appears, find the file "Default.gtr" (on many Windows computers, this file will just show as "Default"), then click "Save"

14.00: Why does GameTime crash when I click Add Teams to Schedule Wizard?

Added 3/27/2006
Updated 11/8/2005
Fixed in GT 14.01
If there are no teams showing in the currently selected division in GameTime's master database browser, and you click the button "Add Division and Teams to Selected Schedule Wizard", then certain versions of Gametime will report this error:

Procedure: gtbrowsemaster.addteamstowiz
Line: 38
Error: 12
Message: Variable 'LCDIV' is not found.
This happens because GameTime is trying to report the division that has just been processed, but, because no teams were found in the division, the division name also isn't available. To avoid this bug, simply don't click this button if there are no teams in the division that is selected.

15: Why does GameTime Reindex everytime it starts?

Added 3/13/2009
Updated 2/13/2009
Fixed in GT 15.07

GameTime now stores all your "Options" settings in a file in the "My Documents\GameTime Schedules" folder. To be sure to update that file to the latest version, a file is installed with GameTime, called "REINDEX.NEW", that indicates to GameTime that it should update the settings file when it first starts.

Normally, GameTime would delete the "REINDEX.NEW" file after it finished reindexing. However, in Windows Vista (and some installations of Windows XP), the REINDEX.NEW file is protected, and cannot be deleted automatically.

To resolve this problem, you can just install the latest GameTime from here: http://aasports.net/ftp/gt That newer version should automatically remove the protected REINDEX.NEW file.

On the other hand, you can manually delete this file by following these steps:

  1. Click [Start... All Programs... All American SportsWare... Tech Support... Explore GameTime v15 Program Folder]
  2. In the Windows Explorer window that appears, find the file called "REINDEX.NEW" (your computer may show it as simply "Reindex")
  3. Delete this file. You may have to "confirm" the delete, and even enter the administrator password. (This is the reason GameTime cannot remove the file on its own.)
Now, GameTime should start up without reindexing every time.

12.xx: Why does GT report a team conflict when the team doesn't even play in that game?

Added 3/17/2006
Fixed in GT 14.00.20

GT sometimes reports "phantom errors" like "Home team already playing this week in game 24" when the Home Team of the game being evaluated doesn't even play in Game 24.

This "phantom error" only happens when there was another actual error, so that, while it is annoying, (making it harder to identify the real errors), it never will show when there wasn't some other real conflict.

(Specifically, once a "Home Team already playing this week" error is reported, it (the "Home Team") will be reported again if the error "Visitor Team already playing this week" is also found, even though the Home Team doesn't play in the game where the Visitor Team is found.)

15: Why does the Loading Fields Message never goes away, and my schedule never finishes loading?

Added 8/27/2008
Updated 9/8/2008
Fixed in GT 15.01.41
A bug was introduced in GT v15.00 (fixed in v15.01.41) that causes schedule loading to be aborted if any field time-slot has a start or end date limit. Even though the "Open" process gets aborted, the "Loading..." messages don't get removed from the screen. You can still choose "File... Exit" to close GT.

12.xx,14.x: Why doesn`t the Date show when I export

Added 3/10/2006

This is usually caused by the width of the date field being set to 0. GT's other reporting mechanisms take "0" as meaning "complete date", whereas the MS Word export takes it as meaning "export the first 0 characters of the date".

To fix this:

  1. Right-click the date header and select "Properties"
  2. Change the "width in characters" from 0 to 10
  3. Click "OK"
Now, the date should generate properly!

Hint: You can set the width to "8" if you want the date in the format MM/DD/YY instead of MM/DD/YYYY
